On the afternoon of this Thursday, a blockage has been reported in both directions of Circuito Interior, near Canal de Tezontle, caused by alleged students from the National Preparatory School 2 "Erasmo Castellanos Quinto". The protesters are demanding improvements in educational quality, but what has caught attention are the violent acts such as the explosion of firecrackers and the placement of barricades with school furniture. There have even been reports of assaults on passersby who were recording the protest.
As a result of this blockage, traffic has been affected between Eje 4 and Eje 6 Sur. The Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection has reported the closure of circulation in this area, coordinating roadblocks and diversions for vehicles on Ermita and Viaducto to minimize inconveniences for drivers.
The protesters have used chairs, tables, leaves, and branches from the median to set fires and block the passage of motorists. Additionally, they have requested the installation of a subsidized cafeteria near the school to benefit thousands of students and avoid exposing them to the area's insecurity.
The Preparatoria 2 has been on strike since January 9, with the request for the subsidized cafeteria and improvements in educational quality. The students have decided to close both directions of Circuito Interior, which has generated the need to seek alternative routes through Canal de Río Churubusco and Eje 3 Oriente. The protesters seek the collaboration of the Government of Mexico City with the university authority to implement the Popular Cafeterias for Well-Being Program, which offers food at a cost of $11.00.
